Nursery Rhymes Week

November 13, 2023 - November 17, 2023

Dear Parents/Carers

We are excited to be taking part in World Nursery Rhyme Week. . The initiative, launched in 2013, promotes the importance of nursery rhymes in early childhood development and education with a particular focus on how nursery rhymes boost early language and literacy skills.
Each day we will focus on a different nursery rhyme and the children will participate in themed activities based around the rhyme. The program for this year is as follows:

Monday – Jack and Jill
Tuesday – Hickory, Dickory Dock
Wednesday – Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes
Thursday – Row row row your boat
Friday – Wheels on the bus

On Tuesday 14th November the children are invited to come dressed as a favourite nursery rhyme character and we will be hosting a small tea party. This will include cake, fruit, a biscuit and a drink. Please let us know if your child has any dietary requirements around this choice and we will accommodate accordingly.

As a Tuesday is normally our PE day the children’s PE will be themed around nursery rhymes and will consist of activities they can do in their costumes so please do not worry about PE kit on this day.

www.worldnurseryrhymeweek.com is an excellent website promoting World Nursery Rhyme Week and includes lots of ideas for parents and carers too.

We can’t wait to celebrate a wonderful week of rhyming with your children.

Kind regards,
Mrs Blakeburn
EYFS Lead
