Welcome to Year 5
Welcome to Year 5
In Year 5, not only do we build upon the outstanding learning experiences of Year 3 and Year 4, we also begin to prepare our children for the challenges of the end of KS2 in Year 6. We are determined to have each and every one of our children leave the year as independent, confident learners, ready for the next stage of their educational journey.
English, Maths and Reading are taught daily, with SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar), Topic (History, Geography, Science, Spanish, Computing, Music and PE) and PSHE throughout the week. Our learning is based around a different 'project' each half term, with the knowledge and skills within each topic becoming more challenging as the year progresses.
Three times throughout the year, standardised assessments take place in order to check the progress of the children's learning in a more formal way. We structure these assessments to 'mirror' the end of KS2 SATs tests - this is intended to develop the children's confidence and resilience in assessment situations. We also continually assess children within our day-to-day teaching to ensure children have grasped key concepts and leave each lesson feeling successful in what they have been taught and learnt.
We do hope that your child enjoys their time with us in Year 5!
