Pathway of Pastoral Support

The Pastoral Support Team

Mrs Jones - Senior Mental Health and Pastoral Lead

Mrs Bond - Pastoral Mentor

Role of the Pastoral Team

To listen and talk to children who may need help with a variety of pastoral issues e.g. family difficulties, divorce, separation, friendship difficulties, illness, bereavement etc.

We offer parents drop-in sessions who need help with a variety of needs e.g. information and resources, signposting to appropriate agencies, financial signposting and a listening ear.

To work closely with our partner schools and other professionals to support our children and their families.

To work with staff in ensuring good pupil support.

To help children either 1:1 or in small groups with Social Skills, emotions, Social Stories, self-esteem and friendship issues.

How are referrals made?

Parents/Carers with a concern can contact the class teacher who will discuss strategies to support their child in class. If progress of the concern has been made, the Class Teacher will continue with ongoing support. However, if the progress is limited, the Class Teacher will complete a Pathway of Support Referral that will be shared with the Senior Mental Health and Pastoral Lead.

Pastoral Offer

All referrals to the team are assessed by the Pastoral Care Team to see which member of staff and pastoral interventions are best to support the child.

How long is the Pastoral Support and what happens next?

Pastoral support will be for a period of 6 weeks. After 6 weeks, the support will be reviewed and views gathered.  Next steps will be discussed with Class Teacher, Parents and Pastoral Team. A decision will be made whether to close the case, continue with a second cycle of intervention or make a referral to an external service.

What types of support could be offered?

  • Small group intervention g. regulating emotions, self-esteem and positive self-image, social skills or a bespoke programme.
  • 1:1
  • 1:1 wellbeing check-ins from one of the pastoral team
  • Calm Start, Lunch Club or 3 ‘0 Clock Club
  • Reading Dog

A referral to one of these external services may be made
